HOPSCOTCH multimedia instalation
Concept by Nona Ciobanu and Peter Kosir
The installation concentrates on the hopscotch as a graphical and a spatial representation of a dictionary of emotions and images, as an invitation and an exercise of freedom and playfulness, as a journey through inner and outer dimensions of yourself, as a perpetual changing, as a puzzle.
The installation explores a changing space around the number 7, in which imaginary invades the real and real invades imaginary, and the everyday realities in the Middle East, where daily gestures are broached and can attain sometimes a universal dimension. As leitmotif: the word as calligraphy of a living body introducing indelible trace, the word which travels and becomes poetry in the seven fields of the hopscotch’s book, positioning ourselves in a journey between real characters (a girl that is reading a book, goats, Muslim men and women in their daily gestures and between the duality of sacred / secular, real / imaginary, tragic / comic, girl / old man, pantheon / amphitheater, desert / city. The love poetry of the Persian Mowlawi Rumi and the music of the Iranian composer Kayhan Kalhor are evolving and germinating as a flow upon the Arabic world imagery, while the desert, the Persian writing, and the dervish are leading as leitmotifs towards the congruence of the two worlds.
Project was presented at KAZAMATE galery - Ljubljana Castle, Slovenia, Romanian Cultural Institute - Bucharest and Pekarna Cultural Centre, Maribor, Slovenia.
